Are you certifiable?

Wednesday, November 16, 2011 by Robert Fleming

In the marketing world credibility is your most important asset.  To get a better job, promotion, more business, you need to be viewed as someone that is knowledgeable and effective at your profession.

Here are 5 ways to increase your credibility:

1. Get 15 years experience at well respected companies
2. Get an education at a key institution like Harvard or Yale
3. Get a eMarketing Certification
4. Attend conferences, seminars, and trade shows and build your network
5. Take online courses to demonstrate your commitment to professional development. Join a professional association.

Ok, so #1 and #2 are a bit difficult, so I will focus on #3, #4 and #5.

Certified eMarketer (CeM)  and Certified eMarketing Associate (CeMA) - These certifications can be obtained by passing an 200 question online test, and provide you with a credential that demonstrates your competency in the eMarketing arena.  Complete details on these certifications are at:

eMA Education
Yes you are certifiable.

An another thing you can do to improve your standing and credibility in the eMarketing space, is to attend conferences and trade shows.  Check out eM12, eMarketing Conference in San Francisco, April 3rd and 4th, 2011, at the Marriott Union Square.

If you are not ready for certification, and cannot attend a conference, then try out an online course in Social Marketing, Search Marketing, Web Marketing or eMail Marketing.  Improve your online marketing skills. You will receive a certificate of completion that will look great on your wall and even better on your resume.  Check out courses at:

And last but not least, if you are not a member of a professional association, then are you really serious about marketing?  Join today at:
